In the past, the delivery of radiation treatments to various forms of malignancies was relatively primitive. We used to plan in only two dimensions, using x-ray machines that were rather simple by today's standards.
With today's powerful computers we are able to plan a patient's radiation treatments using virtual simulation.
This allows us to pinpoint cancer with millimeter accuracy. It also enables us to increase the total dose available to cure the normal healthy tissues.
At Littleton Radiation Oncology we offer many different types of advanced technology; each allows us to pinpoint the tumor.
These include:
B.A.T. - Ultrasound technology which allows us to follow and track the tumor each day the patient comes in for treatment.
I.M.R.T. - or Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, which uses advanced computers to more accurately target tumors.
Brachytherapy - Implantation of radioisotopes inside a tumor, to deliver an intense dose of radiation in a very precise manner.
