Hyperthermia

Hyperthermia, or heat, is a therapy used to enhance the radiation treatment of various tumors. Research has shown that hyperthermia can attack the cancer cells along with radiation therapy to treat some tumors that are recurrent or progressive despite previous radiation management. Tumors that are typically more resistant to standard radiation therapy include sarcomas, melanomas and kidney cancers. These types of tumors become far more sensitive to radiation management when hyperthermia is used as an adjunctive treatment. Hyperthermia treatments are typically given two times per week either before or after radiation management. Each treatment lasts for approximately one hour.
